The Southland Music Line’s Stephen “Andy” Anderson never seemed to slow down as 2016 proved to be another very busy and productive year for the longtime photographer.

He continues to photograph hundreds musicians from all over the world. Andy’s travels have taken him across the South and in particular, the Gulf Coast.

During 2016, Andy returned to South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, TX where he photographed such music artists as Wynonna Judd & the Big Noise, Luke Winslow King, Bonnie Bishop, Mo Pitney, the River Whyless, Marcia Ball and several more amazing artists.

While in Austin, he also attended Twangfest Day at the famous Broken Spoke where he highlighted the legendary venue and its owner James White. He also photographed Jack Ingram, Escondido, The Waco Brothers, Robbie Fulks, Whitney Rose, Marlon Williams, Corb Lund, James McMurtry and others.

A travel to the west of Austin brought him to Bee Cave to photograph John Fullbright, Parker Millsap and Charlie Faye & the Fayettes.

During March, Andy enjoyed a visit to the Texas landmark Gruene Hall (Texas’ oldest dance hall, located at historic Gruene in New Braunfels) where he photographed this picturesque locale and music destination for some of music’s greats – a “must visit” place for devoted fans.

In the fall of the year Andy, as part of The Southland Music Line, attended another weekend of music at the Bogalusa Blues & Heritage Festival where he had the privilege of photographing such talent as Tab Benoit, Marc Broussard, Paul Thorn, Danielle Nicole, Samantha Fish, Cedric Burnside, Voo Davis, and a list of several other sensational music artists.

The Frog Pond at Blue Moon Farm once again turned out to be a favorite location to photograph several favorites including Willie Sugarcapps, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Colin Linden, Malcolm Holcombe, Grayson Capps & Corky Hughes, Sugarcane Jane, Bill Kirchen, Will Kimbrough, Kinky Friedman, Phil Madiera, Colin Lake, Rick Hirsch, Lauren Murphy, Eric Erdman, Molly Thomas, Gove Scrivenor, Jimmy Hall and a who’s who of considerable talent.

And speaking of Jimmy Hall (of the legendary band Wet Willie), a midsummer highlight was photographing at Ocean Springs Live which prominently spotlighted the unforgettable Jimmy Hall & Muscle Shoals Revisited featuring some of the world famous Swampers from Muscle Shoals, AL.

Andy has photographed in several music venues across the region including The Listening Room, Callaghan’s Irish Social Club, Manci’s Antique Club, The Merry Widow and Lulu’s (all in southern Alabama), Jack’s by the Tracks, The Grand Magnolia, Government Street Grocery, The Julep Room, The Thirsty Hippo, Slowboat Brewing Company and The Shed BBQ & Blues Joint (all in Mississippi); and in the New Orleans area, Andy took photos at Gasa Gasa, Chickie Wah Wah and the world famous Tipitina’s.

In 2016, he enjoyed photographing several familiar faces such as The Mulligan Brothers, Cary Hudson, Grayson Capps, Corky Hughes, Sugarcane Jane, Lisa Mills, Seth Walker, Jimmy Lee Hannaford, Wes Lee, Travis Meadows, The Jericho Road Show, Grace Askew, Kristin Diable, Andrew Duhon, Libby Rae Watson, Molly Thomas & the Rare Birds, Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue, Della Memoria, and Edward David Anderson (Andy has photographed all of them in previous years); as well as some new faces like Darcy Marlone & the Tangle, The Kris Lager Band, Abe Partridge, Austin Lucas, Charlie Mars, The Wild Feathers, Shinyribs, Lilly Winwood, Matt Woods and even Weird Al Yancovic (yes, all musicians that Andy took photos of for the first time).

Another first was photographing the multi-talented Jim Lauderdale at a special engagement at Callaghan’s. Andy was also on hand for another Mississippi Blues Trail Marker unveiling – this time in Pascagoula, MS.

Early in 2016, Andy contributed his skills as a photographer and videographer for a number of TV episodes of “Music Scene”. His work was admired, appreciated and further showcased his considerable talent.

Plans for 2017 are already in motion including returning to South By Southwest and the Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival. Also, he has a few nice surprises and accomplishments to be announced in the coming year. Andy looks forward to 2017 and appreciates everyone who enjoys his photos and shares a love for outstanding music.
