DELTA REIGN: A Fan Favorite Delivers A New Album of Pleasing Diversity

delta reignIt is often suggested by friends to check out a variety of bands and musicians. No matter the genre, most know I enjoy all music when there is striking enthusiasm and passion for what is being performed or recorded.

One name has been mentioned more times than I can remember…..that band is Delta Reign from southern Alabama. Their authentic name is synonymous to their music and home.

Delta Reign’s name references the very region they call home. Their form of music, “Delta Bluegrass” takes its proud origin from the multiple rivers that empty into Mobile Bay to form a delta. Likewise, Delta Reign pulls from all its sources to produce a wide range of music diversity – bluegrass, American roots, blues, western swing, and Jazz. Each of its four members (Benita Murphy – guitar, lead vocal; Pat Murphy – banjo, vocals; George Mason -fiddle, vocals; and Joshua Faul – upright bass, vocals.) possess their own God given talents and originality that obviously makes Delta Reign undeniably special.

A couple years ago, several friends and family attended a sizable bluegrass festival in Mississippi – the one name I heard from them all was Delta Reign. Forward to 2014’s Magnolia Springs Festival in historic Magnolia Springs, AL, The Line’s Stephen Anderson and I had the honor of seeing them perform. Since then, we’ve enjoyed other opportunities to see Delta Reign. One thing remains certain, the number of people who approach me, regularly continue mentioning praise for the much loved Delta Reign.

Their 2015 album entitled: “Nothing But Sky” (Travianna Records) is one the band can easily be proud of, one of a positive vision and outlook for the future. The title “Nothing, But Sky” makes it perfectly clear.

Though slightly down a different road, the twelve songs on the album fit nicely into what fans have come to expect from Delta Reign.

Like the different rivers that flow and empty life’s needs into Mobile Bay, the new album’s mixture of songs smoothly allow its listeners to enjoy the first track, “Calico Sundown” through the final, “Turn the Cards Away”, as the music feels our hearts with enriched musical nourishment.
